Untangling Addiction
A psychiatrist describes how addictions are an intense “hijacking” of the brain; the addicted brain believes it needs addictive substances the same way it needs basic substances, such as food and sleep. In the book, he shows how repetitive behaviors involving drugs, alcohol, gambling, and pornography will inevitably cause the brain to believe that it needs the addiction in order to survive. Untangling Addictions will introduce hope, and the ability to overcome this “hijacking” of the brain by utilizing the concept of neural plasticity. Most importantly it will introduce how Jesus-style disciple making is the best way to over-come them.
