Pain and the Necessity of Pruning
Have you ever felt like your life was being chopped away at the roots by a dull axe? Yeah, me too. If we are honest, I think for many of us we have felt like that more this past year than ever before. Social unrest and social distancing, presidential and political upheaval, viruses and vaccines,...

A Call to Pastors: Don’t Run

Coronavirus: What Christians Need to Know
In my context, the eminent threat of the coronavirus (what the World Health Organization has deemed a world wide pandemic, and now President Trump has declared a national emergency for the United States) has caused a wide spectrum of reactions. Everything from the visceral hoarding and stockpiling of toilet paper and other goods (so the...

Since then, it’s true that there have been long stretches in which Christianity has enjoyed favored status in various civilizations. However, a good metaphor for Christianity in Western culture...

The Seasonal Nature of Discipling
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the sun.” The longer I live life, the more I find this to be true. This made me think about the concept of “discipling” and how often in my spiritual context and culture, discipling is looked at as a...

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
I remember watching Mr. Rogers when I was a kid in the 80’s. I wasn’t an ardent fan, and there was something about the show that as I grew older seemed really hokey and fake to me. That was long before I became a Christian. Now my children and I throughly enjoy Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood....

Book Review: Braving The Future, Christian Faith in a World of Limitless Tech by Douglas Estes
Is VR church a bad thing? What about having a microchip brain implant as a Christian? As Christians, should we endorse gene editing in order to help eradicate disease? Loneliness in Ministry
The apostle Paul was a great missionary, sometimes traveling with companions and being imprisoned for their faith (Acts 16:25), and sometimes isolated and alone. Listen as Paul describes his loneliness to Timothy: Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has...
